In Andhra Pradesh, Sona Masuri is mainly cultivated in Guntur, Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar,
Nizamabad, Nellore, Warangal and West Godavari Districts. In Karnataka, it is mainly
cultivated in Raichur, Koppal and Bellary districts.

However, Sona Masuri, premium quality rice used for export is produced in AP, and
adjoining states namely Karnataka, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, MP, and Maharashtra.
AP is the main producer of Sona Masuri rice. Variety-wise and season-wise rice area
sown in Andhra Pradesh during 2008-09 is shown in Annexure II. It is being grown
in 10 lakh ha in AP. As the quality of rice is excellent, and also having ready
market both domestic & export Sona Masuri is the best available to consumers at
